MTC’s South Campus in Guthrie: A space to strengthen skills for life

With the opening of Meridian Technology Center’s South Campus in Guthrie, we’re adding a second location to offer additional courses that focus on adult training and development. Classes in this area are offered during the daytime and in the evening, and many of them can be completed in one or two sessions. Because of this, you’ll often hear us refer to them as short courses.

While the name refers to the amount of time these classes take to complete, it doesn’t reflect their impact. With new courses offered each month, we hope you’ll find something that sparks inspiration for growth in your personal or professional life.

Train or Retrain for Career Advancement

Meridian’s mission is to educate, enrich lives and secure economic futures. One of the ways we do this is through professional development short courses. Whether you’re interested in strengthening your skills for your current position or you’re expanding your abilities for what’s next, the South Campus will likely have a class that can help. Some of our initial offerings include courses related to the job search process and preparing for a new career, maximizing Microsoft products, using the online version of QuickBooks, and continuing education courses for realtors.

We will also offer a variety of health career continuing education courses on a reoccurring basis. Meridian administers American Heart Association courses at the Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support levels.  We also have classes in Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid. To meet the growing needs of the health care industry, the South Campus also has a Flex Learning Lab that allows adult learners access to the online curriculum, classrooms, computers and instructional support at flexible times on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The South Campus team will offer no-cost courses to help students prepare for either the GED or HiSET high school equivalency exam for individuals who do not have a high school diploma. Students complete a pre-test to determine their academic levels in reading, math and language which helps identify an instructional plan that works best for them.  Learning can be achieved through classes, one-on-one instruction, and/or independently through specific software programs. For many, this is the first step to pursuing a new career path.

Expand Your Interests

For those interested in learning something new or having a fun night out with friends, Meridian has you covered! Some of our most popular personal development courses that will be offered at the South Campus include photography, financial management, baking, easy meal preparation, international cooking and DIY classes that can make your house feel like a home. These courses are taught by industry professionals or local hobbyists who are subject matter experts. Our culinary classes include instructor demonstrations, hands-on practice in our catering kitchen and samples to take home. For a complete look at our classes and to sign up for our email newsletter visit meridiantech.edu/southcampus.

When it comes to selecting what courses to offer, we rely on input from you! If you have an idea for a class, we’d love to visit with you. If you have a group that would like to sign up for a class, let us know. Additionally, we can work with you to coordinate a private session. On our main campus in Stillwater, we’ve coordinated custom classes for social groups, church groups, civic organizations and workgroups. We’re looking forward to doing the same at the South Campus.
