Time to crown champions here inside the Jim Norick Arena.

(220 Pounds Hayden Simpson) – Hayden Simpson is a state champion in his senior season.

Pryor’s three-seeded Conner Dicarlo defeated the two seed from the west and top seed from the east to reach the finals, but the upsets stopped in the finals.

Neither wrestler left their feet in the first period. Hayden went down to begin the second and escaped 43 seconds in to take a 1-0 lead.

Dicarlo was called for his second stall call resulting in another point for Hayden to finish the the second period.

Dicarlo chose up to begin the third, but could never turn Hayden over.

Hayden finishes his senior campaign with an impressive 34-2.

(195 Pounds Coal Madison) – For the second straight year, Coal Madison is a third place finisher.

Coal secured the win with a 6-2 decision over Shawnee’s Sam Anderson in a rematch from last week’s regional.

After a scoreless first period, Coal got three back points midway through the second period.

Leading 3-2 after two, Coal escaped 27 seconds in and got his last take down with 15 seconds left to secure the third place.

(145 Pounds Jake Carey) – El Reno’s Daegen Griffin struck early and often in a 15-4 win. Griffin held a 6-0 lead after and an 8-2 lead after two.

Carey ends his senior season at 24-12.

(138 Pounds Braden Hall) – Braden falls short of a state title with a 5-3 setback to Duncan’s JP Martinez. Braden defeated Martinez in the regional championship just last week.

After a 2-2 first period, Hall allowed Martinez to escape in the first four seconds of the third. Martinez would get a take down at the 1:26 mark and Braden with the escape just 10 seconds later.

Braden had one last effort to score two points in the final few seconds and appeared he may have done it, but the officials did not reward the points despite a protest from head coach Jadon Davenport.

It was a rollercoaster for Guthrie in the consolation semifinals with the Jays coming away with two wins out of six matches. Jake Carey and Coal Madison making it the conso finals. See results below.

Next will be the medal matches tonight beginning at 7:30 p.m.


We are set for the consolation semifinals as six Bluejays attempt to make the third place match.

(285 Pounds Riley Boyster) – It was looking good for Riley in his conso semifinal with Grove’s Ben Johnston. And then, it turned. Quickly.

Riley started quick with two first period take downs to lead 4-1. In the second, Riley started down and got turned and could not overcome.

Riley ends his senior season with a respectable 32-9 record.

(195 Pounds Coal Madison) – Coal is looking to repeat his performace from last year with a third place finish. He set up in the consolation finals with a first period pin over Carl Albert’s Alex Sutterfield. Coal had the take down at 1:28 and the pin 11 seconds later.

In the final match, Coal will go up against

(182 Pounds Spade Pool) – Spade had to take some chances in the third period to give himself a chance, but was unable to capitalize in a 12-7 setback to the two-seed Parker Henry from Lawton MacArthur.

Henry held a 2-1 lead after one before an entertaining second period with Spade collecting two escapes and a take down to tie the match at 5-all.

Henry made a quick escape, collected a take down to go up 5-8 before Spade got one final escape (6-8) before having to take multiple chances.

Spade’s season ends at 25-15.

(145 Pounds Jake Carey) – Jake has made his way onto the medal stand following a second period pin over Lawton MacArthur’s three-seed Calvin Moon.

Moon got a first period take down with 54 seconds left and rode him out for the remainder of the period.

In the second, Jake, a senior, started down and got the escape and 30 seconds later got atake down to go up 3-2.

Jake (25-11) will wrestle for the consolation championship in a regional rematch with El Reno’s Daegen Griffin.

(100 Pounds) Klaribel Kirk – In an entertaining back-and-forth match, Klaribel came up short as she was pinned with 49 seconds left in the match from Durant’s Addison Polk.

Klaribel, the top seed from the west, got an early take down on Polk and kept her down for 1:49. However, Klaribel could not get Polk to her back.

Going into the third period at 2-2, Klaribel started down and allowed three back points. She continued to be aggresive and got a reverse to pull within one, 5-4. After a scramble, Polk got the advantage with 60 seconds left in the match.

The sophomore finishes her season at 17-2.

(106 Pounds) Kaedin Herendeen – Coach Jadon Davenport thought he had a last second win in Kaedin’s semifinal match with Sapulpa’s Cavin Peper. However, the officials did not see it that way.

Kaedin was down 4-3 with six seconds left with both wrestlers up. Needing to make a move, Kaedin shot in and appeared to have advantage on Peper as time expired, but the officials did not award the points.

Davenport pleaded his case, but to no avail.

Kaedin finishes his freshmen campaign with a 16-12 record.


The first session of the day is in the books. Guthrie will have four wrestlers going for it all in the state finals.

Wrestling for a state championship will be junior Khaleah Kirk, junior Eli Kirk, junior Braden Hall and senior Hayden Simpson.

There have been 11 state champions in Guthrie history. The last time a Bluejay was crowned a state champion came in 2011 with Bryan Dutton and Landry Chappell.

Before the championship matches, we will have the consolation semifinals with six Bluejays, including Klaribel Kirk, Kaeden Herenden, Jake Carey, Spade Pool, Coal Madison and Riley Boyster.

Those matches begin at 2:45 p.m. and the championship round at 7:30 p.m.

Current Team Standings: Collinsville 150, Guthrie 62, Carl Albert 53, Pryor 49 and Glenpool 41.


We are back for day two as six Guthrie Bluejays have an oppurtunity to wrestle into the state championship matches. Here we go.

(220 Pounds Hayden Simpson) – Two state tournament matches for Hayden Simpson. Two pins for the top seed from the west.

The senior is headed to the state championship match following a 40 second fall over Elgin’s Jace Williams.

Hayden enters the final match with a 33-2 record and will go up against Pryor’s Conner Dicarlo (a three seed), who needed overtime in his semifinal win over the top seed from the east.

(195 Pounds Coal Madison) – Coal had to make his move late in the third period, but could not pull it off against the top seed from the east in Collinsville’s Brayden Gilkey.

Gilkey, a big part of Collinsville’s state championship football team, walked away with a 6-2 win.

Neither wrestler left their feet in the first. After the second, Gilkey built a 4-1 advantage.

In the third, Coal got the escape to pull within two, 4-2, with 63 seconds left and had to go.

Coal took his shot, but Gilkey (26-3) caught it for the final take down of the match.

Coal (28-5) will wrestle in the consolation finals, a match he won a year ago en route to a third place finish.

(145 Pounds Jake Carey) – Everyone inside the Jim Norick Arena knew Jake would have a battle on his hands with the nation’s 11th ranked wrestler in Collinsville’s Cole Brooks.

Brooks, the top seed from the east, scored a quick take down and appeared to have Jake pinned, but Jake was able to get away despite giving up three back points. Brooks got another take down before gathering the pin.

Jake (24-11), a two seed, now moves over to the consolation bracket and will take on Lawton MacArthur’s Calvin Moon, who is a three seed, for the right to wrestle for third place.

(138 Pounds Braden Hall) – Lawton Eisenhower’s Jacquvis Paoli pulled off a sudden victory win on Friday. That was not the case on Saturday with Braden Hall.

Braden controlled the match from whistle to whistle with a 9-2 win to advance to the state championship match later this evening.

Now 35-4 on the year, Braden jumped out to a 4-1 first period lead and increased his lead 7-1 after two periods.

(120 Pounds Khaleah Kirk) – Make that two Kirks wrestling for a state championship.

Just like her brother, a pin will send Khaleah to the state championship match after a pin with :14 left in the first period over Watonga’s Shawn Johnson.

Prior to the pin, Khaleah led 5-0 beginning with a take down 12 seconds in. Johnson was unable to reach her feet after going down.

Khaleah, nationally ranked, will enter the championship match on Saturday night with a perfect 21-0 record.

(120 Pounds Eli Kirk) – Eli is on a mission and he proved that in just over a minute of time.

Leading 4-1, Eli craddled Altus Chi Sanders for several seconds until the referee slammed his hand down for the semifinal pin.

Now, he wrestles for it all in the 120 pound state championship on Saturday night. Will his sister Khaleah join him? That’s coming up next.

(285 Pounds Riley Boyster) – Riley got his second tournament win after pinning Glenpool’s Braxton Birch in 47 seconds. Riley is now 32-8 and with a 33rd win, he would wrestle for third place.

(182 Pounds Spade Pool) – Spade kept his senior season going with a 5-3 decision over Carl Albert’s Raylyn Sherman. Spade is one match away from wrestling for third place. He improved to 25-14 on the season.

(106 Pounds) Kaedin Herendeen – The freshmen got his first state tournament win with a fall in the second period. Wrestling as the three seed, Kaedin is now 16-11 on the year following his win over an Altus opponent. He will now wrestle in the consolation semifinals.

(100 Pounds) Klaribel Kirk – Klaribel took her frustrations out from yesterday on Anadarko’s Calli Connally as she needed just 26 seconds to collect the pin and her first win inside the Jim Norick Arena.

She improves to 17-1 on the season.

(107 Pounds) Cheli Zamora-Hernadez – Coweta’s Aiyana Perkins needed 1:49 to collect a fall over Cheli, whose sophomore season comes to an end with a 17-7 season.


Day one is in the books for the Guthrie Bluejays at the State Wrestling Championships.

Guthrie entered 13 in the field and will return 11 for Saturday’s competition. The Jays will have six grapplers having an oppurtunity to win a state championship.

Saturday’s weigh in will be at 8:30 a.m.

The tournament starts back up at 10:30 a.m. with the first round of consolation matches. Semifinals will begin at 12:30 p.m., consolation semifinals at 2:45 p.m. and the medal matches at 7:30 p.m.

(285 Pounds Riley Boyster) – Elgin’s Rylan Hitt showed why he’s undfeated on the season as he took 24 seconds to pin Riley.

Riley, who won his earlier match on the night, will move to the consolation bracket on Saturday. Riley falls to 31-8 on the season.

(220 Pounds Hayden Simpson) – In a flash, top-seeded Hayden Simpson advanced to the semifinals.

After a scoreless first period with Ada’s Caden Balthrop, Simpson found himself down 0-1 after Balthrop escaped to begin the second period. However, once Balthrop was up, Simpson took him down for the win.

Now, 32-2 on the season, Simpson will wrestle for a chance to reach the 5A finals.

(195 Pounds Coal Madison) – Coal was aggressive from the start and finished with a fall in 3:12. Before the pin, Coal led the match 6-0 over Glenpool’s Brayden Nelson. After one period, Coal led 4-0.

Coal, the two-seeded junior, advances to the semifinals with a 28-4 overall record.

(182 Pounds Spade Pool) – Collinsville’s BK Seago controlled his entire match with Spade in a 6-1 decision as Seago picked up a take down in each period. Spade’s lone escape came in the first period.

Spade, a senior, falls to the consolation bracket with a 24-14 record.

(145 Pounds Jake Carey) – In an even three period contest, Jake Carey took advantage of two stalling points in the final 60 seconds for a narrow 7-6 win over Coweta’s Brock Roberts,

Carey and Roberts were tied 5-5 going into the final two minutes. Roberts led 6-5 with 90 seconds left following his escape, but the two stalling calls proved to be the difference.

Carey, a senior, is now 24-10 on the season and advances to the semifinals.

(138 Pounds Braden Hall) – Top seeded Braden Hall won his 34 match of the season with a 3-2 win over Carl Albert’s Braden Anderson.

After a scoreless first period, Hall started down and was ridden for 1:59, but got the escape point just before the whistle go up 1-0 into the final two minutes.

Anderson needed 11 seconds to escape to tie the match at 1-all. However, Hall scored the decisive take down with 1:31 left and stayed on top until the nearly end when Anderson got a late escape.

(120 Pounds Khaleah Kirk) – As her brother (Eli) was wrapping up his first round win, Khaleah needed only 1:12 to pin her Miami opponent. Before the pin, she led 2-0 with a take down eight seconds in.

Khaleah is now 20-0 as she looks to get back to the finals after finishing runner-up in 2021.

(120 Pounds Eli Kirk) – There was never a doubt for top-seeded Eli Kirk in his 12-3 win over the four-seed from Glenpool.

Eli, a junior, got his first take down 38 seconds into the mat and rode out his opponent for the final 1:22.

In the second, Kirk got a take down and with a craddle collected three back points to go up 5-0.

Eli allowed three points, but cut his opponent twice.

He’s now 33-2 on the year and will next face freshem, three-seed Chi Sanders of Altus, who took down the two seed in his first round.

(107 Pounds Cheli Zamora-Hernadez) – Purcell’s Koty Sessions showed why she’s the top seed with a 13-0 win over Cheli. Sessions collected three take downs in the first period, another in the second to go with three back points and one more take down in the third.

Hernadez falls to the consolation bracket.

(100 Pounds) Klaribel Kirk – An injury to top-seeded Klaribel Kirk in the second period appeared to play a role in her first loss of the season. Skiatook’s Destiny Jones collected the fall at 3:54.

Klaribel, a sophomore, got a take down eight seconds in the match and followed that with six back points to lead 8-0 after one period.

Jones got a take down on Khlaribel to begin the second period. That is when she suffered an arm injury. A trainer was able to tend to the injury, but the pin came 90 seconds later as Khlaribel could not get to her feet.

She is now 16-1 on the season and falls to the consolation side of the bracket.

(106 Pounds) Kaedin Herendeen – Pryor’s James Peach controlled the match from the first whistle to the last whistle in a 5-0 win over Kaedin.

Kaedin, a freshmen, trailed 2-0 after the period and 3-0 after two.

He’s now 15-11 on the season and will continue on the consolation side of the bracket.

(285 Pounds Wrestle-In) Riley Boyster – Riley made quick work on his Claremore opponent (Luis Contreras), and we mean quick. Riley got a quick take down 12 seconds after the opening whistle. Six seconds later, he had his pin

Riley advances and will take on top seed Rylan Hitt, of Elgin, who is 27-0 in his senior season.

(160 Pounds Wrestle-In) Gabriel Sanders – Pryor’s Kade Edmonds controlled the entire match on his way to a fall at the 5:20 mark. The pin came with Edmonds leading 8-2 as Sanders’ season comes to an end.

(152 Pounds Wrestle-In) Bryson Hall – The length of Bishop Kelley’s Cameron Leake was too much for Freshmen Bryson Hall. The freshmen trailed 4-0 after one period before collecting two take downs in the second. Trailing 4-8, Bryson was able to get within a point, but was unable to shoot his opponent in the last few seconds.

Hall finishes his season at 22-15.

(107 Pounds Wrestle-In) Cheli Zamora-Hernadez – Cheli built up a 10-5 lead, but needed 17 seconds in the third period to pin her Claremore opponent. She now advances to take on top seeded Koty Sessions of Purcell.

She is now 18-5 on the season.
