12 candidates file for Logan County offices; 7 seek Sheriff’s position

The Republican ballot come June 28 will see several options for key Logan County offices, including Sheriff and District 2 County Commissioner.

The three-day filing period came to an end on Friday. In total, 12 candidates filed their paperwork with the Logan County Election Board.

Two offices will not see a race for the second term in a row.

Logan County Clerk Troy Cole and interim Court Clerk Cheryl Smith did not collect a challenger and will run unopposed. Both terms end on Dec. 31 with the new term set for Jan. 1.

District 2 Commissioner Mike Pearson will have two challengers, including Don Spencer and Salome Vaughn.

For the Sheriff’s race, Sheriff Jim Bauman will have six opponents, including Damon Devereaux, Mike Lanoy, Veronica Thomas, Ben McHand, John Marshall and Robert Hardee.

If a candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote in the June 28 election they will be declared the winner. If a candidate is unable to achieve 50 percent of the vote, the top two candidates will have a runoff in the August 23 election.
