A man has been charged with murder in Logan County following a motorcycle accident on July 4 of last year that killed a female passenger and sent another person to the hospital. The suspect has a history of convictions.

Court papers show Nathaniel Keith Allen, 56, was operating his 2003 Ford Taurus with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit (which is one of the most common Causes of motorcycle injuries in Chicago) when smashed into a 2014 Indian motorcycle with two on board near the intersection of Douglas Blvd. and Simmons Rd. just after 11:30 p.m. Related story: Guthrie woman killed in motorcycle accident

Allen was charged with murder in the second degree, causing a collision under the influence of alcohol resulting in bodily harm and driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, subsequent offense.

Both riders, who were thrown off, were not wearing helmets.

A OHP trooper says the motorcycle was pulling away from the southbound stop sign when the motorcycle was hit.

This accident was completely avoidable as there is no need for anyone to drive while drunk. Accidents like this occur far too often and can seriously affect the victims life, or even take it. 1. This guy is mostly to blame… But the victims weren’t wearing a helmet. Terrible that what might be a fender bender with another automobile becomes murder because its a motorcycle and helmets aren’t worn!

  2. Nevermind the fact that this guy was drunk and driving, and he hit a motorcycle stopped at a stop sign and that he was been arrested for drunk driving three times before and did not learn his lesson, and he hit the motorcycle so hard from behind that the victims neck was broken, be I am sure that a helmet made to protect a head would of stopped a neck from breaking. He is TOTALLY to blame.

If this happened 4th of July 2015, why wasn’t the driver arrested at the time of the incident if he had priors? Why was he released to be free until april? This incident is one sided. Did anyone mention that this same story came out that holiday weekend and the story was completely different. No one mentioned that he stayed at the scene called 911 and cooperated with police and detectives to the fullest. Now he is being made out to be a murderer. Smh..I guess we will never know the toxicology report of the motorcycle driver. Go figure.
