An iconic piece of Guthrie history is now gone.
The Beacon Drive-In, which served generations of moviegoers for more than 70 years, was demolished Wednesday after the property was sold earlier this year.
Drivers pulled off Division St. to watch and record the final moments of the longtime landmark. The wrecking crew needed only about an hour to bring down the towering white movie screen that had stood over Guthrie since 1950.
For decades, the Beacon was more than just a theater. It became a gathering place for families, teenagers, college students, and couples, creating memories across multiple generations. Summer movie nights, first dates, and family traditions all played out beneath the glow of the drive-in screen.
The Beacon welcomed visitors from across the region, including students from Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Oklahoma who made the trip to Guthrie for the unique experience.
The property will soon enter a new chapter as Communication Federal Credit Union plans to build a bank at the site. Related article: Beacon Drive-In sold; after more than 70 years, leaving lasting legacy in Guthrie
