A Guthrie woman was arrested for driving under the influence last week, but it was her actions in the back seat of a deputy’s patrol truck that landed her four more charges.
A Logan County Sheriff’s deputy made a traffic stop after observing a black Chevrolet had drifted to the left of the center and then drove inside a ditch. The deputy told the driver to stay in the car, but moments later opened her door and stumbled in the roadway, according to the deputy’s report.
Shannon Lorraine Gandara, 44, of Guthrie was placed into custody for driving under the influence. Afterwards, she was placed in the deputy’s back seat. After doing a search of Gandara’s vehicle, the deputy walked back to check on Gandara.
The deputy opened the door and saw a small fire on the back seat. Deputies quickly removed Gandara from the truck and after a struggle found a lighter in her hand.
Somewhere in the process, the deputy suffered burns to the top of his hand. He was treated for the injury.
Gandara was booked and charged with arson in the third degree, causing personal injury during the commission of arson, assault on a police officer and driving a vehicle under the influence.
Gandara was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to be back in court on Jan. 23.
Frisk, pat down, then place in car.
