Former Crescent police chief, two officers accused of pawning city firearms

Three former members of the Crescent Police Department, including the former police chief, have been charged with embezzlement, according to the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigations.

An OSBI investigation, requested by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, found three .45 Glock Model 21 pistols were pawned at Oklahoma City area pawn shops.

The firearms were purchased by the city in 2013 and issued to the officers.

Former Police Chief John Alvin Gilbert, 44, was terminated last October after the city manager called for an audit of weapons at the Crescent Police Department. The audit revealed three missing firearms. OSBI says Gilbert admitted to pawning one of the guns.

OSBI agents say two former Crescent police officers, David Lee Henderson Jr., 44, and Joseph Hardy Hanson, 51, admitted to pawning the other two weapons.

Gilbert, Henderson, who was a reserve officer, and Hanson each face one felony count of embezzlement.

Gilbert and Henderson turned themselves in to the Logan County jail on Tuesday. Each was given a personal recognizance bonds and a March 24 court date.

Hanson will turn himself in with his attorney at a later date.
