Free Pelican Bay passes return for city residents beginning friday

Guthrie residents can once again cool off this summer at Pelican Bay in Edmond for free as the City of Guthrie resumes its popular partnership with the water park following the completion of renovations.

Pelican Bay Aquatic Center, operated by the City of Edmond, completed a $7 million renovation project and will reopen to the public July 18 with updated facilities, improved accessibility features, and new amenities. The first major upgrade for the aquatic center after nearly 25 years of service.

Pelican Bay will officially reopen on Saturday, July 18, and Guthrie residents can begin picking up complimentary wristbands on Friday, July 17, for opening day admission.

Residents living within the Guthrie city limits may receive up to four wristbands per family, per day. Wristbands are available at the utility payment window on the second floor of Guthrie City Hall and are valid for one day of admission. Children ages 3 and younger do not need a wristband.

To receive wristbands, residents must present a valid photo ID showing a Guthrie address as proof of residency.

The City of Guthrie also reminds families of several important guidelines before visiting Pelican Bay:

  • Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • A maximum of four wristbands will be issued per family each day.
  • A valid ID with a Guthrie address is required to receive wristbands.
  • Youth ages 13 to 15 must complete Pelican Bay’s T.A.S.P. class before they may enter the facility without adult supervision.

This summer marks the fourth consecutive year the City of Guthrie has partnered with Pelican Bay to provide residents with free access to a public swimming facility. The program began after Highland Park Pool closed in May 2023 due to drought conditions at the time and the facility’s aging condition. City officials continue to explore options for constructing a new community pool in the future.
