The National Weather Service in Norman has announced that all NOAA Weather Radio transmitters under its jurisdiction will be off the air from June 3 to June 5 due to a scheduled software update.
The outage will affect numerous transmitters across the state, including locations in Ardmore, Atoka, Chickasha, Clinton, Enid, Lawton, Altus, Oklahoma City, Ponca City, Wichita Falls, Wewoka, Stillwater, and Woodward.
While the updates are necessary, the National Weather Service urges residents who rely on NOAA Weather Radio for severe weather warnings to use alternate methods for receiving alerts during the outage. Recommended alternatives include:
- Local television broadcasts
- Mobile weather apps with push alert capability
- Local community emergency notification systems
The National Weather Service emphasized the importance of being prepared and staying informed, especially during this time of year when severe weather is more likely.
Logan County has set up a notification system and is free to sign up.
