Dirt work is officially underway at Charter Oak Elementary as crews begin construction on an addition that will include six new classrooms. The expansion is part of the $45 million bond issue approved by Guthrie voters in August 2024.
The project is expected to be completed in time for students to return from winter break in January 2026. Once finished, classes currently held in portable buildings will be moved into the main school building, providing a more permanent and secure learning environment for students.
The 2024 bond measure, which passed with 72.23% approval and nearly 4,000 votes cast, is a key component of Guthrie Public Schools’ long-term plan to improve educational facilities districtwide.
In addition to the Charter Oak expansion, the bond will fund:
- Additional classrooms at Cotteral Elementary in 2025
- A wrestling room addition at Guthrie High School in 2026
- A new elementary school, projected for 2029
- Technology upgrades, safety improvements, and parking lot enhancements
