Senate Minutes with State Senator Chuck Hall

The 48 men and women who serve in the State Senate come from every single part of the state.  Some have to drive many hours to get to Oklahoma City each week and can’t easily make quick trips back to their district during the week for special events or family occasions. 

I feel fortunate that District 20 is relatively close to the State Capitol.  Not only can I get to the Capitol relatively easily each week, but it also means it isn’t too long of a trip for frequent visitors from the district who want to see their Capitol, visit with their elected officials, advocate on issues they’re concerned about or simply get a first-hand look at the legislative process.

Even though I am not that far away from home, I cannot tell you how much I enjoy welcoming visitors to the Capitol—the People’s House as it’s called. This past Wednesday morning I welcomed some of those constituents to my office—CJ Fedor and his children, Isaac and Kaylie stopped by.  What a nice visit.

In fact, over the last several weeks we’ve had several individuals and organizations come to the Capitol from District 20.  We had a visit from members of the Guthrie Job Corps and greeted a group of nursing students from Langston University. We had the honor of introducing the Guthrie High School Wrestling Team, Class 5A Academic Champions as well as the Coyle High School Basketball Team, Class 2A academic Champions, on the floor of the Senate.

We got to visit with Representative’s from Kay Electric Cooperative and Central Electric Cooperative as well as representatives from the Oklahoma Bankers Association. Marilyn McIntosh, the North Central Director of the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association came to see us, and we’ve had visits from optometrists from Guthrie. Realtors from Perry and Kingfisher have stopped by, county government representatives from Logan and Noble Counties, teachers from Deer Creek Schools, and on Pro Life Day constituents from Hennessey came to the Capitol.

We’ve also had two pages this session—Blakeley Huskey from\ Guthrie and Caden Mitchell from Hennessey. Our Senate pages represent some of the best and brightest students in the state, and Blakeley and Caden certainly are among them.

We’ve had other wonderful opportunities to visit with folks in recent days and weeks.  I attended the Oklahoma Youth Expo where Mattyson Cook from Coyle showed me the finer points of how to show a goat.  I helped host Missy’s Donuts Day at the Capitol along with Representatives Pfeiffer and Mize.

I got to participate in a donation to the Hennessey Fire Department from Enel Clean Energy and in presenting a donation to Perry Public Schools from OMPA for their recent energy efficiency efforts. I was also very happy to help present a $30,000 grant from TSET at Guthrie High School.

I thoroughly enjoyed attending the Coyle Livestock Booster Club Pork Chop Dinner and the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Leadership Conference.  I attended the Council of Government leaders meeting in Pawnee. 

Every one of these meetings brings me into contact with people from the district—helping me stay in touch and focused on the views and concerns of the very citizens who entrusted me to be their voice in the State Senate.  I sincerely thank each and every person who has been to the Capitol or welcomed me to an event in the district.
