Former Assistant District Attorney Kevin Etherington has been sentenced to 20 years in prison following his conviction on child pornography charges.
On Friday, a Payne County district judge formally sentenced the 56-year-old former prosecutor to serve 20 consecutive years in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
The case began in September 2022 when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children forwarded multiple cyber tips to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Unit regarding child sexual abuse material.
During the investigation, OSBI agents identified Etherington, who at the time served as the First Assistant District Attorney for Payne and Logan counties, as a suspect.
On Nov. 28, 2022, OSBI agents executed a search warrant at Etherington’s home in Stillwater. Investigators later arrested him on charges of aggravated possession of child pornography and violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.
Following a three-day trial in Payne County, a jury found Etherington guilty on March 5, 2026, of aggravated possession of child pornography and possession of child pornography. Jurors recommended a 15-year sentence on the aggravated count and five years on the possession count.

Prosecutors said the aggravated charge applied because investigators discovered more than 100 files of child sexual abuse material.
The prosecution was handled by the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office due to Etherington’s connections within the local legal system.
Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler said the case highlighted the serious nature of child sexual abuse material crimes and stated Etherington “deserves to serve every day” of the recommended sentence.
Etherington previously worked under former District Attorney Laura Austin Thomas in Logan and Payne counties after leaving the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office in 2013.
At the time of Etherington’s arrest, Thomas publicly condemned the allegations and announced his termination from the district attorney’s office.
