A slew of recruits came to Columbia on Saturday to watch Missouri’s spring game, including a pair of top out-of-state recruits hailing from the same state.

Brothers said he’ll take a few more visits before making a decision.

Both Guthrie, Okla., linebacker Kentrell Brothers and Oklahoma City athlete Kevonte Richardson made the eight-hour drive to Columbia with their family. For Richardson, Saturday marked his second visit; he attended a previous spring practice with a group of his high school teammates. Brothers’ trip was his first, and was “a long time coming.”

“They were the first school to offer me,” Brothers said. “I’ve been trying to visit for a while now but it didn’t work out till now.”

Richardson was already familiar with the program after his first visit. This visit, he said, was for his parents.

“I wanted my mom and dad to see everything,” Richardson said. “I really liked it when I came up here, so I wanted them to check it out.”

Mom and dad approved, Richardson said.

“Oh yeah, they love it here,” the 6-foot-1, 185-pound athlete said. “I think they want me to commit right now.”

Richardson, however, wasn’t ready to pull that trigger.

“Missouri is at the top of my list,” he said. “But I think I’m going to wait just a little bit longer.”

He holds eight total offers, including ones from Kansas, Colorado and Arizona. He said he doesn’t have any other visits scheduled, and wasn’t sure if or when he would see other schools. Missouri, like many of his other offers, is recruiting him as a safety.

“I’ll play where ever they want me,” Richardson said.

Brothers, on the other hand, is taking his time with his decision.

“Missouri’s up there,” Brothers said. He cited his close relationship with his recruiting coach, Josh Henson, as a big factor.

“I want to see a few more schools first,” he continued. “I could make a decision this summer if I feel comfortable. If not, I’ll probably wait till after the season.”

While he plays defensive end and wide receiver in high school, Missouri wants Brothers as an outside linebacker. He said he was impressed with the Tigers’ defense during the spring game.

“Coach Henson told me to keep an eye out for them,” Brothers said. “He said they were a lot better this year. They look good out there.”
